Description:

Let's climb Mt Thielsen! This will be a one day, drive-over-drive-back kind of trip. Thiesen is a great mountain because you get the forested hike, the spicy ridge, and one-pitch technical climb, with all pieces being not too long.

As we get closer to the date, we'll determine meet-up place. We'll meet around 3am and drive to the trailhead.

  • Supplies and Equipment Required: Harness, belay device with locking carabiner, two personal leashes each with locking carabiners, helmet. You'll want clothing for a cold start, chilly waiting below the rock pitch, and maybe chilly at the top. You'll want layers as the day warms up. You'll want at least 2 liters of water and enough food for a fifteen hour day (including the drive). Trekking poles are nice, but we'll leave them at the bottom of the ridge. Hiking shoes or light hiking boots are best, good tread but not too stiff.

Trip Report

Saturday, July 28, 11 climbers summited Mt Thielsen. The trip was lead by Marci Hansen. The trip assistant was Maryanne Reiter. There was a little bit of smoke at the trail head, but we hiked above it as we gained elevation. It was a zippy group, we were back at the cars in under 9 hours. Everyone summited.
