N Umpqua Rafting and Hiking

Description:

We will be spending two days on the North Umpqua River. Our first day will be spent rafting the upper section of the North Umpqua River with Ouzel Outfitters. This is a beautiful section of the river with 15 miles of exciting water. Our second day will be spent hiking a 5.5 mile section of the North Umpqua trail. We will be staying at the historic Steamboat Inn in two, three- bedroom homes. Cost includes rafting trip,gratuity,lodging and all meals except one lunch. Pre trip meeting will be scheduled prior to the trip
Cost: $210 members; $215 non- members. Registration: May 12, 7am, members; May 15, non- members
Cancellation policy: If you cancel prior to June 17, you will forfeit $30 unless someone fills your spot. If you cancel after June 17 you will forfeit the full amount unless someone fills your spot. Trip Report

Our group of 12 had a wonderful two days on the North Umpqua River. On our first day we met our two guides from Ouzel Outfitters at Gravel Bin boat launch. They shuttled us to Boulder Flat Campground to begin our trip. We received paddling instructions, a safety talk, helmets and the option of wearing paddle jackets and pants. We began our 15 mile trip on the beautiful North Umpqua River. It was an exciting day filled with a lot of whitewater. Everyone got wet – some more than others. We were all quite happy to have paddle jackets on. The river was fairly low, with quite a few rocks that we tried to avoid- sometimes unsuccessfully. A few people had an out of boat experience. We stopped mid - afternoon for a delicious buffet deli lunch provided by Ouzel. After the trip, we drove a short distance to Steamboat Inn where we rented two houses for the group. We had a delightful happy hour followed by dinner at the restaurant. The following morning, we divided into two groups to hike along 5.5 miles of the N Umpqua trail. There was poison oak, and a few wasp stings, but it's a lovely trail along the river. We arranged the key exchange so that our cars were waiting for us at the end of the hike. It was a great group and everyone had a lot of fun.
