Description:

Hit the trails on the 25th National Public Lands Day to restore the connecting Floral Hill trail off of the Ribbon Trail. Meet at Hendricks Park at the picnic tables in the playground area near the parking lot. The Floral Hill Trail Restoration Project involves loading and moving gravel, spreading and compacting. Lighter duty work will be trailside vegetation removal. The Hendricks Park Volunteer Coordinator hopes to have 30 folks on board to help with the project. The time listed on the flyer is 9AM -1PM. Trip Report

We moved gravel, a lot of gravel, manually, in wheelbarrows. My legs are sore just thinking about it.

We met City staff and Friends of Hendricks Park volunteers for this day of fun. The City provided lunch as a bribe to get us to volunteer for an extra hour. After Dev loaded our wheelbarrows with gravel we followed them as controlled as we could down the trail and dumped them only to push them back up the trail and repeat the process. The gravel was spread and compacted along about half of the trail. As with moving gravel in buckets I'm not sure if we advertise another outing of moving gravel in wheelbarrows if we will get as many volunteers.

Lunch and snacks were welcomed and devoured.
