Description:

Obsidians volunteers will join others and work in coordination with the Coast Fork Willamette Watershed Council to build a new community garden center in Cottage Grove. For Feb 15 we have planned small projects such as building a small lean-to structure as a wheelbarrow shed, spreading lime across the garden (pellets, no dust), and setting the raised beds in place / filling raised beds. We'll continue to spread compost and gravel and establish all the plots and pathways.
Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad will provide a full lunch for all the volunteers. They are trying to make this date a big community engagement day and will invite the future gardeners / families as well.
All tools will be provided, so only your enthusiasm and the will to do the work in, for now, unknown weather conditions are required. Please support the program of Huerto de la Familia, now a part of a nonprofit called Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad. At the previous outings we got a lot accomplished. We demolished old garden, built permanent fence, spread tons of compost and gravel to raised bed area etc.…

IF YOU ARE COMING FROM EUGENE AREA: We will carpool 9:30AM from Amazon Park, 28th & Hilyard parking lot in Eugene to Cottage Grove.
IF YOU PLAN TO MEET THE GROUP IN COTTAGE GROVE: Meet 10AM behind the high school on R Street, near the soccer field. From River Road, head West on Harrison and left in R.

Trip Report

Today we completed another major step in the process of building the Huerto de la Familia (Family Garden) in Cottage Grove. Huerto de la Familia is part of a nonprofit organization called Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad, which serves Latino and immigrant communities throughout Lane County. Soon, 45 families will share 60 brand new garden plots.
A big thank you to all the dedicated and hardworking volunteers who support the efforts of nonprofits in our community.
Together, we build hope. 🕊
