Description:

Meet at the Spencer Butte Trailhead -the paved lot – by the steps before the departure time. Take note of 100 plus shrubs and ferns that Obsidian Trail Maintenance volunteers planted on November 25. This hike is not a race –but a gathering for us to ring in the New Year. You can set your own pace with others on the main trail to the summit. This is 14th annual New Years Hike that continues a long Club tradition. We usually gather on top near the south end where we keep a low profile so as not to impact others.

Note: The meeting place is not at 52nd Street. Keep driving another ¼ mile.

Trip Report

Did all the many hikers we met on the trail know that the sun was shining above the clouds highlighting the snowcapped mountains? Whatever the reason, we shared Happy New Year greetings! Somehow our groups from three trailheads managed to rendezvous on the summit for photos, snacks, and conversation. Carla's photos are in the Members Area Gallery. What a lovely morning to renew friendships. Returning to the main parking lot, there were cars waiting to take our spaces. The early hiker catches a parking space.
