This is a 'longest' variation of Janet's New Years hike for those that want to start the New Year off strongly. We willthe earliest and aim to see all the Obsidians at the top. Choose the version that works best for you.

Trip Report

We had a dark, cloudy morning for the 4.5 mile hike up to the top of Spencer Butte. We caught up with one of the groups, and we had a steady stream of people arriving on top to see Eugene from above New Years' Day. There was some clearing over to the west, with a very interesting light, which counterbalanced the very cold wind. We headed back down after some refreshments and a rain shower hit about the time we got back to Blanton Ridge,
