Description:

Meet at the Fox Hollow Trailhead on Fox Hollow Road. The hike has been changed because of unsafe conditions due to snow and ice on Spencer Butte summit. We will hike the Ridgeline Trail from the Fox Hollow trailhead to Mount Baldy. We will have a slowish pace and meet up with the hikers on the two other New Year's Day hikes and share easy-to-eat snacks at Mount Baldy.

Trip Report

Our short trip, as well as the other two New Year's Day trips, had to be changed from the traditional hikes to the summit of Spencer Butte to Mt. Baldy. This was due to snow and ice on the summit from a recent winter storm causing unsafe conditions. Nine hikers signed up for the hike but cancellations for various reasons caused the final count to be three. We met at the trailhead with sunshine and temperatures just above freezing and were pleased to find that there were only a few sections of the trail that were icy. We enjoyed our hike to the summit where we waited for about ten minutes for the medium group that had started from the Martin Street trailhead. We left before the large group from 52nd Street trailhead arrived and did not encounter them on our way back to Fox Hollow trailhead. Thanks to Sandra and Evelyn for joining me on our first hike in 2022.
