Trip Report

Our annual New Years party was, as always a joyful gathering for, the 31 attending. Lillian & Art Johnson and Janice & Pat Pattison had made a special effort to get the fire blazing so the room was very comfortable when we arrived. Also the table was beautiful with green lace cloth, big red candle in a Della Robbia wreath (made and given to the club by Muriel Aufderheide) sparkling punchbowl with bright red punch and big trays of cookies, candies, sandwiches, etc.

Lorene and Hazen Bressler gave us a slide show on the Philippines, which they had recently visited. We also saw a little of Singapore before the projector quit working, and enjoyed looking at some of the articles brought back.

Then refreshments to prepare ourselves for the Annual Liars Contest with background music from old time records. Stories were told by Ina Foss, Duchess Cox and Mac McWilliams, all claiming to be absolutely true, with some recounting of Duck Hunting stories by Art Johnson, and the Dorr Hamlin "Bear stories" by Bailey Castelloe and Ray Sims. Among the true liars, Mac was the winner, being awarded the Horsefeathers trophy, originated by Henry Korn. After more refreshments, Edith Bridgeman expressed some inspirational thoughts on the brand New Year, and Blanche Bailey played the piano while several stood around the piano singing, and the whole group sang, winding up with Auld Lang Syne.
