Trip Report

This bus trip of October 3, 1976 was undoubtedly the highlight on any one-day trip of the year. Led by Dr. Ewart Baldwin, who narrated a wealth of information about the topography from Goshen, Lookout Dam, Paschelke's mine; and continuing with geological explanation in detail for the Newberry Crater, Paulina Peak, and Lava Butte region. Bright sunshine revealed the spectacular scenery at the summit of Paulina Peak and photographers were delighted with the beautiful hoarfrost display (a special fringe benefit). Mountain peaks were visible for nearly the entire Oregon span and sprinkled with the first dusting of snow. It was a great day with a great group. The group included Ewart and Margaret Baldwin, Beulah Barker, Mary Bridgeman, Bernice Callison, Marie Carstensen, Virginia DeMers, Gerry Fehly, Marian Fulkerson, Florence Givans, Jane and Larry Hilt, Mildred Holm, Bea LeFevre, Margaret Markley, Vi McClung, leader Dorothy Medill, Jim Meeks, Lloyd and Jeanette Myers, Frances Newsom, Bonita Rickard, Frank and Sue Riemer, Catherine Ritter, Lois Schreiner, Grace Smith, Myrtle Smith, Peggy Smith, Betty Mae Stamm, Jenny Sogge, Mary-Douglass Stovall, Thelma Watson, Angie Coombs, Helen Weiser and Virginia West, plus Joe and Kay Silence and the bus driver.
