Description:

Please note below change of venue for pre-trip meeting. Join us for a three-day, two-night group camping trip at South Beach State Park, just south of Newport, OR. Six vehicles are permitted. Group camping site with portable toilets close by, and flush toilets, free hot showers further inside the park. All meals on your own except Thursday night with pizza/salad/dessert. Members have sign-up preferences until May 25. Cost: members $31; non-members $36. Mail check within five days of signing up to Evelyn Nagy, payable to the Obsidians, P.O. Box 10412, Eugene, OR. 97440. Cancellation policy: if you cancel prior to June 11, you will forfeit $15. If you cancel thereafter, no refund. Pre-trip meeting on Friday, June 29, 5:30, at Market of Choice on south Willamette.

Trip Report

We stayed at the group camping site at South Beach State Park in Newport. The trade-off of cool beach weather was met with coastal 21 mph north winds. The first day we drove to the Yaquina Lighthouse and returned with a beach walk and the wind to our back. The second day was a visit to the Newport aquarium and Hatfield Marine Science Center at South Beach. The first night some of us took a short walk to the beach to watch the sunset.
