Description:

The North Bank Habitat is near Roseburg, exit 135, Wilbur, then on North Bank Rd to the West Entrance. The drive takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes. The up and down loop hike has rolling—some steep & challenging hills— up to and along the ridgeline with oak savannas, meadows, and views of the Umpqua River. One can easily avoid the poison oak at this time of year. Perhaps a muddy section. We should start hiking around 9:30 and complete the hike around 2:30. It will be a steady moderate pace, gathering on the hill tops. Plan for a snack break at picnic table and a late lunch. If weather forecast is not favorable, I will change the destination to Mt. Pisgah.

Trip Report

Sun! Snow covered foothills! What a surprise to shed layers of clothing and pull out our sunglasses and sunscreen. We expected muddy trail sections but were again surprised to trek through patches of snow up on the ridgeline. Everyone was happy to linger in the sun at our lunch spot enjoying the views high above the North Umpqua River. What a change from the rainy and snowy weather of the past weeks. Thanks to Heidi Anderson who provided the BLM North Bank Habitat Management Area Map.
