Description:

The North Bank Habitat is near Roseburg, exit 135, Wilbur, then on North Bank Rd to the West Entrance. The drive takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes. The up and down loop hike has rolling—some steep & challenging hills— up to and along the ridgeline with oak savannas, meadows, and views of the Umpqua River. One can easily avoid the poison oak at this time of year. Expect a few sections of the trail to be really muddy. We should start hiking around 9:30 and complete the hike by around 2:30. It will be a steady moderate pace with a late lunch so bring some snacks. The elevation gain is like doing Mt. Pisgah twice. If weather conditions are not optimal, I’ll substitute a hike on Pisgah. The hike is described in Sullivan's Southern Oregon hiking book.

Trip Report

What a surprise to hike above the fog to enjoy a sunny hike on the boundary ridge with its dramatic views. The trail was in good shape except for a few muddy spots at end of the loop. The West Entrance bathroom at the trailhead was closed due to the government shutdown. We were back in Eugene by 2:30.
