Description:

This trail follows the North Fork of the Willamette River. The river should be running full and fast this time of year. We *might* see the beginning of spring wild flowers. We will hike from the trailhead at Westfir to the top of the second section. We will put a car at the top of the trail.

Trip Report

We hoped to drive into the sun but we at least got out of the fog. The only people on the trail it was quite. The earliest I have been on this trail and we hit the beginning of wildflower season. Snow queens, yellow violets, trilliums and coltsfoot. We started at Westfir. Only two small trees across the trail easily navigated. We stopped for a snack break at the first bridge. The second section of the trail had all of the downed trees removed. The bridge lost a section of side railing from a tree that fell across it. The body of the bridge was solid so no problems crossing. Two large root wads had slid across the trail in separate spots. The tread was pushed around but both of these areas were easy to get around. The group continued on up the next section while Joel and I retrieved the car at Westfir. The one thing we all noted was how low the river was for this time of year.
