Description:

Beautiful river/forest hike along the North Fork of the Middle Fork of the Willamette. Not in Sullivan's "Central Oregon Cascades" hiking book. But the trailhead is the same as Sullivan's fourth edition #166. Old growth Douglas Fir and Cedar trees can be viewed along the trail. Hike will either end with lunch at "Constitution Grove" or beside the river another 1/2M or so down the trail. Fine river views on a relatively flat trail with good tread. Much of the blow-down encountered 2 years ago has been cleared.

Trip Report

A beautiful river walk through a forest of Cedar and Douglas Fir. Constitution Grove is about at the 3 ½ mile mark. In 1986, the 200th anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution, a tree was dedicated for each of the signers. Wooden information plaques about each of the signers are attached to trees along the trail.
Good hiking weather; comfortable temperatures with a few showers and sun breaks. We did not see smoke which had been a concern going into the hike. The trail was in good condition with many of the blowdowns removed. The several wooden bridges are deteriorating so caution is required when crossing them. Similarly, with two tricky, small stream crossings. A highly recommended 8 mile out and back hike with little elevation gain.
