Trip Report

Leaving South Eugene at t p.m. on Friday, the varied group quickly left for Frog Camp and our campsite at the springs below Arrowhead Lake. Climbing started at 5:30 a.m. up the barren path to Collier Glacier. Despite the warm temperatures of the season, the frozen pitch up the glacier just to the saddle proved to be the first exhilarating moments of the day! It was exciting enough for our two young climbers, Aaron Grosscup and friend Jarl Berg, to stay in the wind break below the saddle! Staying to the right we attained the top of the south/red ridge and the trail to the belay point. The dinner plate having been "cleaned" of its white sauce, a fixed line sufficed for the crossing. The group ascented via several routes to enjoy lunch and the signature party on top. Rappelling and free climbing down, David and Luis went up Middle while the rest of us made our way to Arrowhead Lake for the traditional cleansing, a good dinner in camp and a well deserved night's sleep.

The summiteers consisted of first-timer members Tom Cawi and Becky Hansen, nonmembers David Presti and Luis Valls, along the Lee Hatch and co-leaders Rick and Sally Grosscup.
