Trip Report

In ideal weather and with a rapidly melting snow pack, the four waterfalls we visited were in their full glory. We traveled in Experience Oregon’s small bus to Roseburg and up the scenic North Umpqua River Road for a coffee stop at Swiftwater Wayside. Next a hike up to Susan Creek Falls, then up Hwy. 138 to 272-ft. Watson Falls for lunch and a hike for the great view. Then on to Tokatee via an improved trail and a steel staircase (221 steps, says Joyce Fixer). Despite the diversion flume, a 12-ft. in diameter Redwood monster, Tokatee was indeed very pretty, as its name translates. Finally, a very rapid 2-mile round trip to Fall Creek Falls through a nice forested area. We enjoyed a brief stop at the Colliding Waters at Glide, and used the Wilbur cutoff (again, great green scenery) to Rice Hill for our traditional ice cream. Special thanks to Experience Oregon’s Bud Kloster for an excellent drive, and to Harvey Speck for handling the Sweep duties.
