Trip Report

I call this hike the “Grand Obsidian Tour” because it includes all the most scenic spots in the Northern Three Sisters Wilderness. Our hike started at the very popular Obsidian trailhead where we immediately joined the loop in a clockwise direction. It's about a 5 mile hike through forests and a lava field before we reached Four-in-One Cone where we took the time to hike to the top where almost everyone took turns taking pictures of the group. From here it's about another mile where we joined the PCT and headed South another mile to Minnie Scott Springs where we stopped for a refreshing cool drink. After another mile we reached Opie Dilldock Pass where we took another side trip to the beautiful Collier Glacier viewpoint for a lunch break. After lunch we continued South on the PCT to the Glacier Creek spring for another water break. We then joined the climbers trail and made our way over snow fields and up a steep scree slope to get up to the plateau where Arrowhead Lake sits. Here two of our group jumped in for an incredibly refreshing swim. It was a long tough hike to get here but our group all agreed that this very special spot was worth it. After our swim we made our way down to Sister Springs and Obsidian Falls where we left the PCT and continued another 5 miles on the Obsidian trail back to our vehicles at the trailhead. According to my GPS our total mileage for the day was 18.3 plus a total accumulative elevation gain of 3200 feet. It was a great hike through some of the best scenery in the Northwest.
