Trip Report

A trip to the City! The May 17th Obsidian bus trip took us to the Oregon Jewish History Museum and Center for Holocaust Education located in the Pearl District in Portland. This museum is dedicated to preserving Oregon Jewish history as well as fighting discrimination in all forms. Our visit to the Museum began with the OPB Oregon Experience video “The Jewish Frontier”, telling the history of Jewish people in Oregon beginning in the early 1850's. The Museum has displays and reminiscences of the holocaust both with Oregon resident stories and a gallery of traveling exhibits. Our tour included thoughtful information recognizing and handling discrimination. Still in the city, lunch was at Kornblatts on NW 23rd. This is an authentic and popular New York style Jewish deli. The food choices were many. After a good lunch there was time to explore the busy neighborhood. We saw many lovely old homes, and our bus was parked in front of two beautiful Japanese Snowbell trees in full bloom. Our trip to the "city" completed, we hit the road for home along with all the busy city traffic. Our group today included nineteen members and three nonmember guests.
