This first aid class is being offered at the Obsidian Lodge on three successive Thursday evenings starting January 17, 2013. There will be three-hour class sessions offered on the evenings of January 17, 24, and 31, from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. Attendance at all three sessions is required to obtain first aid certification. NOTE: Obsidian members have first preference for this class.

The class is entitled “Outdoor First”, with first aid certification provided by the National Ski Patrol. The course is designed for those involved in outdoor activities so that they are able to treat basic illnesses and injuries, and stabilize someone with more serious injuries until someone with more advanced training can reach the scene. Topics to be covered include basic assessment, care of musculoskeletal injuries, dealing with cold and heat problems, and an introduction to the first steps in care and stabilization of a critical patient.
