Trip Report

We were greeted just short of the trailhead with 6-8" of heavy snow covering the road. After parking in the trees, we headed up the road to the trailhead. The trail had intermittent patches of snow 2-6" deep. Other hikers and mountain bikes had recently used the trail, but the trail was actually in pretty good condition. We took a short break at Lone Wolf Shelter before heading to the summit. We experienced a full mix of weather conditions on this hike: rain, sleet, hail, snow, fog, and a couple very brief sunbreaks. Unfortunately, there were no views to be had on the summit, though we were teased by a brief show of blue sky. We ate our lunches and headed back before we got too cold. A highlight of our hike were the many huge old-growth trees along this trail.
