Description:

With clear weather we could have good views of big mountains. Wild flowers should be in bloom. This is a good early season hike close to Eugene.. FYI, there is thinning going on in the area. I have run into downed logs across the road a couple of times. The alternate hike will be the north fork of the Williamette out of Westfir.

Trip Report

First trip for me with no masks, car pooling and everyone with vaccines. I can only say everyone was relieved and enjoyed the trip very much. Overcast and 42 degrees at trail head. The forest was misty not much in the way of views. Everyone seemed enjoy the this quiet forest. I thought we would see more wildflower but today it was snow queens, yellow violets and trilliums. The biggest change was the number of large old growth Doug firs down at the top. Huge root balls standing on their sides. The only conclusion I could draw was the Labor Day winds that pushed the fires and pushed these old trees over.
