Trip Report

The group had perfect weather on this 3-night camping trip to Newberry Group Site on the shores of Paulina Lake, located within the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Skies were blue with no clouds and no smoke, with temps in the low 80s. It was a bit chilly at night. Activities included hiking the Paulina Lakeshore loop trail, checking out the hot springs, canoeing and paddle boarding on the lake, exploring Newberry Crater and hiking to the summit of nearby Paulina Peak, bird watching, and hanging out at camp. A bald eagle was even spotted flying over the lake near camp. Some visited Lava Lands Visitor Center and the Lava River Cave en route to or from camp. We made big campfires all 3 nights and enjoyed getting to know each other.
