Description:

This quiet wander through the flatland past the quonset hut will eventually take us to the river. We will listen and look for birds and maybe even spot a coyote. Last time we did this, several tree trunks had been well gnawed by beaver. We shall see if any of those trees are still standing. This wander will give us lots of time to enjoy our surroundings.

Trip Report

The weather ended up reaching 78 degrees while we were out and none of us were used to the heat since it had been in the 50's only a few days ago. As a result, we left out one loop of wandering and agreed that with summer now upon us, we should meet no later than 10:00. The river was high and moving fast. Some wanderers had not been to that stretch of beach before. The grassy paths had been mown which helped ease our way. We found no new beaver activity on the previously chewed trees. The underbrush was so high we never did spot the tree that had been chewed nearly to the center. We'll check back again in the winter when the foliage is gone and we can grumble about how cold it is!
