Description:

Because of the awful weather for snowshoeing, I'm changing this outing to a hike up Castle Rock. I'm trying a different trailhead that starts off of road 411. A stop at Takoda's Restaurant afterwards is a possibility. Suggested fuel share of $11.

Trip Report

We started this hike on the Castle Rock/O'Leary trailhead. This takes at least 2 miles off of the distance hiked, plus it has less elevation gain than the Kings trailhead. The trailhead starts about 3 miles down road 411 and is well maintained. It does have one creek crossing, but I suspect this creek dries up in the summer. We hiked about 9 miles; the return hike was done in a light rain. It's a beautiful trail, and it's now my favorite way up Castle Rock.
