Trip Report

Departing promptly, we arrived at the McKenzie Ranger Station at 9:00, where we obtained the Trailhead Parking Permit, and enjoyed coffee and pastry, courtesy of Experience Oregon. Following a brief look at the headwaters of Lost Creek, we then hiked the 1½-mile Proxy Falls loop trail, which is well maintained, goes through lava and forest, and has great views of both Lower and Upper Falls. We lunched as a group at Paradise Campground; extra home-made cookies were provided by Ethel Allen, as usual. Then to Sahalie and most of us walked down to Koosah. This section of the Upper McKenzie is truly outstanding. Throughout the day we benefited from Bill Eaton’s stories and descriptions of EWEB activities in the area. Finally, pie etc. at the Rustic Skillet. We enjoyed spectacular scenery (especially the waterfalls), great weather, good food and fellowship, and with an excellent driver, Bud Kloster.

Participants were four nonmembers (Kent Christoferson, Dick Hulse, Jeanette Forsman and Caroline Wegelin) and 18 Obsidians: Ethel Allen, Marian Borchardt, Bill Eaton, Ingrid Carmichael, Judy Forell, Bette Hack, Dora Harris, Phyllis Hulse, Rosella Jones, Marie Loome, Cleora Mersdorf, Liz Reamer, Harvey Speck, Millard Thomas, Dorothy Turner, Doreen Waggoner, Christof Wegelin and trip leader Ray Jensen.
