Trip Report

Ten hardy skiers, five on AT, and five on Tele gear, left Crescent Lake sno-park at 9:40 AM heading for the slopes of Redtop Mountain. Skiers were on the summit in three hours for lunch under blue skies with perfect views all around. Then the downhill fun began, taking the north open slopes through a foot of blissful powder in conditions that a skier can normally only wish for. A loop heading first north and then east brought the group to Pretty Lake. Snow conditions deteriorated as the elevation decreased and a steep, heavily forested slope proved challenging. The trail from Pretty Lake back to the sno-park was hard packed and fast, and the end of our nine mile day was reached before 5:00 PM. Thanks to Dave McAllister for digging an avalanche risk assessment pit before we took to the open slopes. So what was better, the AT or the Tele gear? Five votes the for AT and five votes for the Tele.
