Ribbon Trail Tree Ivy Removal

For this month's outing we'll be shifting gears from the planting project because it'll be to cold to plant plants, to cutting back ivy from tree along the ribbon trail.

Meet at the Obsidians Lodge. Work party goes from 9-12 am.

Trip Report

We met Evan Gammon at the Lodge on a brisk morning to "life-ring" trees along the Ribbon Trail. We each grabbed a bucket Evan had prepared with hand-clippers, a saw, and a snake-tongue weeder and headed down the trail. We stopped for a refresher on how to identify poison oak vines so that we could avoid working on trees with them. As we entered the work area we each picked trees without poison oak to create "life-rings" on. To create each life-ring on a tree we cut the ivy off at about chest height and pulled it off back to the ground cutting, prying, and scraping the ivy vines along the way. We bounced from tree to tree freeing them from their ivy. We ended our outing by partaking in zucchini bread that Janet brought and discussing various beetles.
