This is an information hike that is part of the Ridgeline Celebration and National Trails Day!

The purpose of this outing is to introduce people to the work that we do on the trails within Spencer Butte park. We will be hiking up the West Trail taking opportunities to show examples of the visible and not so visible work we do the maintain the trail.

Trip Report

We hiked up the West Trail to the summit talking about the trail maintenance work that the City and Obsidians have undertaken to improve the West Trail and protect habitat along it. Some of the highlights included: that after 5 years that fenced-off areas between switchbacks have finally begun to re-vegetate and look natural; exposing the cobbled lower section; discussing the infamous Obsidian bucket brigade. In addition to talking about the work we had done we also talked about why we did it and in some cases had to re-do it.
