Ridgeline Raking & Brushing

Description:

Meet at the Fox Hollow Trailhead Parking lot across from the Raptor Center. Obsidians trail maintenance work party work from Fox Hollow to Dillard trail. Bring a rake to do the final clearing and brushing on the lower and upper trail to Dillard. Our volunteers worked on the trail last Wednesday and then on Saturday, the Scorpions sawyers did their work to remove the logs. We will give safety instructions before we start working. Plan for 3 hours. Also we will let you know about registering with City of Eugene for liability.
We have a few extra rakes if you don’t have one. Email Janet at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions. Guests are welcome.

Trip Report

Eight Obsidians and one soon-to-be Obsidian turned out on a cool and cloudy Thursday morning to rake and clear storm debris on the upper Ridgeline Trail between the Fox Hollow and Dillard West trailheads. Dan Gilmore remarked that meticulous rakers left some portions of the trail so clean that we could "eat off them." Which is what we did, enjoying June Miller's macadamia nut cookies and Janet Jacobsen's persimmon bread. On our return hike on the lower trail we were intrigued by a four-inch deep patch of snow and ice, surviving so long after the mid-January ice storm. Could it be the start of a new glacier in Eugene's south hills?
