Description:

This is a hike that William Sullivan added back to the top 100 Hikes of the Central Cascades. The trail starts along Waldo Lake and then turns North to venture around the Upper & Lower Ridgon lakes and Lake Kiwa. About 70% of this area burned in 1996 but is coming to life with new young trees now 4-12 feet tall. The treasure of this hike at this time of the year are HUCKLEBERRIES. Hopefully ripe -we will snack along the way. Bring a container to fill at our lunch stop. We will also stop for a swim in Waldo Lake. We should be back to Eugene around 5 PM.

Trip Report

The weather was perfect, the group was perfect, the lakes were perfect the huckleberries were perfect. We had an amazing hike around the Rigdon Lakes and Lake Kiwa. We grazed on huckleberries on the trail and picked many over lunch at Lake Kiwa. On the way back we stopped at Waldo lake and several jumped in for a quick swim. It was a perfect day !
