Description:

Make a New Years Resolution to ride the bus. Meet at the west side of Springfield LTD station. Bathrooms are inside but there is not a business office to purchase a senior pass. We will walk to Island Park to D Street, the River Path past the Knickerbocker Bridge, the Frohnmayer Bridge (formerly Autzen Footbridge) to the Peter DeFazio Bridge. (Bathrooms nearby). Update: I need to be back at Springfield LTD station at noon so where we hop on EMX for our return depends on how briskly we walk. I have extra day bus passes if needed. If questions, please email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net. There is extra parking behind the Springfield LTD station, 5th and South B Street (Booth Kelly lot).

Trip Report

Where are the boundaries for Island Park, Eastgate Woodlands, Whilamut Natural Area, and Alton Baker Park? Where is the Willamette River diverted for the Alton Baker Canoe Canal? Where is the pump station and intake line for the Eugene Millrace? How are the fish protected? Where does the millrace start and end? What was original purpose for the Canoe Canal and the Eugene Millrace? When did they move the Willie Knickerbocker plaque hidden in the vegetation up to the Knickerbocker Bridge? Where is the fox den? Why were two of the tallest manmade waterfalls added to the berm outside Autzen Stadium? Where are the zebrafish benches? Most of these questions were answered on our walk from the Springfield LTD station to the Dave and Lynn Frohmayer Bridge where we quickly caught the EMX back to Springfield.
