Description:
Our primary goal for this course is to teach participants to comfortably and confidently go from indoor rock gym climbing to outdoor single pitch climbing. This involves equipping students with the technical skills necessary for setting up top ropes, leading beginner sport climbs, and following more challenging sport climbs. The course will be Weds, Aug 14 (5:30- 8:30) and Fri, Aug 16 (5:30-8:30) and all day Saturday, Aug 17.

Supplies and Equipment Required: Climbing harness and helmet, 6 locking carabiners, 6 non-locking carabiners (optional), 60-meter dynamic climbing rope (9 mm – 10.2 mm) Optional, Belay device (and rappel device, if belay device cannot be used to rappel, such as a grigri), Hollow block or short prussik (for rappelling), PAS – Personal Anchor System, Double length sling - about 120 cm / 48 inches long Optional, Triple length sling - about 180 cm / 72 inches long, Cordelette for anchors. 6 -7mm, 20 – 25 feet long

participant prerequisites: • Competent top rope belaying (provide belay certification from rock gym)
• Know how to tie the following knots: overhand and overhand on a bight, figure-eight and figure-eight on a bight, figure 8 follow through, auto-block, prussik, and clove hitch
• Comfortable climbing 5.8 on top rope
