Rosary Lakes

Description:

Everyone will arrange their own transportation. For those of you that work out carpooling, I would recommend using the LCC or Pleasant Hill strip mall lot. The mileage from Eugene to Oakridge Green Water rest area is about 45 miles. At 8am will depart from the Oakridge Green Water rest area so please arrive 10 minutes early to receive finial driving directions. We will hike up the switchbacks above the upper lake to a great viewpoint for lunch. On the way back there will be an opportunity for a swim in one of the 3 lakes.

Participants will manage their own transportation. Obsidian protocols for social distancing will be observed on the hike. Refer to main website page for information.

Trip Report

We started by meeting in Oakridge Green Water rest area at 8am. From there it was a short drive east on hwy 58 to the PCT trailhead next to the highway maintenance gravel shed. We took the short trail to the PCT, then hiked north up to the lakes. We stopped at the lower lake for short break before continuing on passing the middle and upper lakes before hiking up the switchbacks to a great viewpoint looking over 5 lakes and the valley below. After lunch in the shade and some picture taking we headed back down the trail. We stopped at the upper lake where Harold Thompson, Mike Nease, Steve Johnson, Diana Wheat, Kathie Carpenter, Marguerite Cooney and Brad Bennett took a swim. We then moved 40 yards through the trees and jumped into the meddle lake for more swimming. We couldn't stop there so we hiked down to the lower lake and jumped in making it a triple crown. Put back on our socks and shoes and headed on down the trail, back to the cars.
I described this hike as 8.2 miles with 880 feet of gain. It turned out to be 10 miles with 1494 feet of gain. Luckily for me all enjoyed our final destination named by Steve Johnson as "The Five Lakes Viewpoint" Crescent, Odell and the three Rosary Lakes.
