Trip Report

We crunched our way uphill through the forest under blue skies and sunshine, treated to sneak peeks of Crescent Lake and Diamond Peak through the branches. After lunch on the shores of Lower Rosary Lake beneath the splendid Pulpit Rock, a few of us started back early while the rest of us took a side jaunt up to Middle Rosary Lake and back. This gave us a total mileage of 8 miles and elevation gain of 800 feet.

Kudos to the four non-, soon-to-be new members, as well as to the old-timers who entertained us with stories of the Rosary Lakes' killer mosquitos. The snow was packed hard enough that a few of us removed our snowshoes and hiked back to the trailhead, and the bare patches under the trees reminded all of us to be grateful for what was probably the last snowshoeing weekend of the year. This is truly a trail for all seasons, as fun in the snow as it is when the lakes are swimmable in fall (after the mosquitoes have flown south.)

A word to the wise: If you switch cars for the drive home, be sure to double check whose belongings might still be in which car. One driver arrived in Eugene only to find they had someone else's shoes in the back of their car, and this follows a recent near-disaster when someone nearly headed home with someone else's keys on board.
