Trip Report

Our party of five had a great time on our snowshoe to Salt Creek Falls and timed the weather almost perfectly. We all piled into Scott's car and had some light rain on the drive up with no snow on the roads or parking lot. Once we walked to the start of the trail, we put on our snowshoes and began our hike through the forest with a blanket of snow and rhodies popping up all around big, beautiful trees. There is a bridge out before we start the loop, but we took our snowshoes off and carefully crossed over the creek on a log. On our way back after the loop, some of us crossed on at a different log about 20 feet upstream. We could cross the creek on that log while keeping our snowshoes on. If you go up and do the trail before the bridge gets rebuilt, check out those two options. We stopped for lunch at the viewpoint and, even though it started raining and looked a little sleety, we stayed dry under the trees' canopy. The rain stopped just as we finished lunch (again, perfect timing!). Overall, we all had a wonderful time on the snow and stayed dry. There was only about 20 yds of soft duffy dirt that we had to walk on. After an added bonus of a pitstop in Oakridge at DQ, the rains came again on our drive home. We were treated to a beautiful double rainbow over Lookout Point lake that seemed to follow our car for a while. We marveled at how Scott was able to time the weather so well!
