Scott Mountain, Crater Lake

  • Start date: 10/20/2024

  • Start time: 8:00 AM

Description:

The Rim Drive is finally open. This trail has beautiful views every step of the way. The forecast for the rim on the 20th is sunny & 65, probably in the 40’s at the top; I spoke with the ranger & there is no snow in the park at this time, & it is likely that snow will not be a around when we hike; but it is possible so we should be prepared with micro-spikes & walking stick{s}. We will have time for an optional leisurely trip around the rim after hiking.

Trip Report

Six hikers traveled a bit of extra mileage for this special trail, truly one of the most spectacular in Oregon. The weather was mild and a bit overcast but with clear views of the Mt. Scott peak and all other landmarks in the area – Mt. Shasta, Mt. Thielsen, Klamath Marsh, Crater Lake and other points of interest in the park. Our timing was perfect in that rain & snow moved into the area the following day, and is still with us as of this writing.
