Shotgun Creek Rec Site -Tiki, Drury Ridge, and Shotgun Creek Trails

Description:

This is a beautiful hike, a gem in the midst of an area that has been logged. It is a short 35-minute drive from Eugene. We will be starting the hike at a fairly brisk pace on the gentle Tiki Trail, moving on to the more moderately-challenging Drury Ridge Loop, which will give us most of our elevation gain for the day, before it drops down to the fairly flat Shotgun Creek Trail. Total miles will be approximately 6. Bring poles if you normally use them. Hikers who do not normally use them may want them on the Drury Trail if the clay is messy from the rain we are having.

Please note that heavy rain predicted for Saturday, 24 hours ahead of time, will cancel the hike as will bad trail conditions when we check later this week. That said, as of the time of writing, weather looks good for Saturday. Participants will receive an email on Friday either confirming or cancelling the hike.

The parking fee at Shotgun Creek Recreation Area is $5 per vehicle, payable by cash or by using an America the Beautiful Pass, a Golden Pass or an Interagency Pass.

We will meet in the Office Depot parking lot (2859 Chad Drive), north of Costco. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early so that carpools can form and be ready to leave at 9:00am.

Suggested donation for gas to the carpool driver is $5.

Trip Report

5 Obsidians and one non-member started the hike under an overcast sky. There was debris on the trail from recent storms but nothing big enough to stop our progress through the beautiful <br /><br />
forest. Two-thirds of the way through the hike the sun broke through the clouds for a brief period. All three of the trails - the Shotgun Creek, Drury Ridge and Tiki - were beautiful. Shotgun and Tiki are both easy trails. The Drury Trail was more of a challenge, but none of the three trails was difficult, in spite of the wet conditions. All Trails recorded a total distance for the hike of 6.86 miles with an elevation gain of 761 ft.
