Upcoming activity

Siuslaw River Kayaking or Canoeing

  • Start date: 07/28/2026

  • Start time: 8:00 AM

Description:

Meet at the W. 11th Target (4575 W. 11th) a few minutes before 8:00 am. There is construction equipment next to the road; look for boats on top of cars just north of the "pods". We will drive highway 126 to Tiernan Landing, approximately 5 miles east of Florence; a Lane County parking permit is required. If you're meeting us at the Tiernan Landing, arrive there between 9:15-9:30. There is a portable toilet there, but there is no easy place to pull over once we are on the river. Plan your liquid intake accordingly.

We will paddle upriver with the tide from the boat landing to Sweet Creek, about 1 mile. Then paddle up meandering, narrow Sweet Creek, hopefully, sampling blackberries. You may want to bring a container. Lunch/snack while staying in our boats. Then paddle back downstream, with the current, but against the tide. Wind is always a potential issue. Total paddling time - about 2-2.5 hours.

For those who want to share transportation, the suggested driver donation is $10.
