Trip Report

On Saturday, 23 April, nine people again met with climbing committee instructors at South High parking lot for the drive to HooDoo Bowl and snow climbing school.

We parked near the Red Chair lift and hiked over to Hayrick Butte. Practiced ice-axe self arrest, ice-axe boot belay, roping up, group rope arrest and crampon procedure. Snow was quite soft and could have been much harder packed for good crampon work.

Trainees were: David, Jeff and Larry Cash, Dorothy Hayes, Henrietta Richmond, Richard and Robert Scherer, and Connie and Millard Thomas. Climbing committee instructors were Kevin McManigal, Frank Moore and chairman Dick Moffitt.
