Description:

We will meet at the Sun by the Duck Pond (take Day Island Road and park near the pond) and visit the eight planets, starting with Mars and the Earth-Moon system, which are nearest the parking lot, then Venus and Mercury. We will cross the DeFazio bridge to the other side of the river and visit the four outer planets with Neptune at the furthest part. We will then turn around and walk back. We will stop by each of the planets for a few minutes before moving on.

Dress in layers and warmly. We will be stopping for a few minutes from time to time. I plan to be done by noon.

Trip Report

Five of us walked through the 1:10^9 scale model of the solar system along the Willamette. We started at Mars, then Earth-Moon, Mercury, Venus, and the Sun. We then did the outer planets and returned. It's a very impressive model and gives an excellent rendition of how vast the differences are just in our solar system.
