Description:

This is a 1-day trip - we expect to start hiking at 9 am & finish by 6 pm. Bring headlamp or flashlight. No water along the way, so bring plenty (Recommend 3 liters.). Prepare for cool & windy at the top, wind-chill could be 35F.

Trip Report

Another beautiful late summer day on South Sister - warm, shorts all the way, no clouds, no wind, amazing scenery, more people on the trail than I've ever encountered. Eight of us left SEHS at 5:45am in two cars, and we were on the trail at 8:30, lunch at the "lake" at 11:30, and the top at 1:30. We encountered the 82 year-old gentleman from Bend who was helicopter-rescued the next day [made the news] - I spoke to him for a while [out of concern] - I concluded that he was reasonably equipped and would be fine, just slooowww - his steps were measureable in centimeters, but he kept on going.

We all had a great time, some of the non-members may be inclined to join up. Stay tuned for a repeat performance same time next year. .
