Description:

South Sister in September is a non-technical but strenuous climb that requires your fitness level to be such that you are comfortable gaining almost 5,000 feet in the 5.75 miles to the summit and complete the round trip climb/hike in 10 - 12 hours.

We will depart at 6:00 AM from Devils Lake Campground...the sign for the South Sisters Trail head is at the end of the campground parking lot, just to the right of the restrooms. Once at the 10,358-foot summit of the third tallest peak in Oregon you are rewarded with spectacular views of Broken Top, Mount Bachelor, and the Middle and North Sisters.

Note that I will be in Bend that weekend so I will be meeting everyone at the trailhead. Those departing from Eugene the morning of the climb should depart by 3:30 AM so that you are at the trailhead and ready to go by 6:00 AM. Another option would be to camp at Devils Lake Campground or other nearby location the night before.
