Trip Report

We had ideal weather for the climb. Saturday was cool and cloudy for our pack in to the area above Moraine Lake where we camped. There was so much snow that the blazes weren't visible and we were slightly off course for awhile. The other parties who came in later followed our tracks so they had longer than necessary hikes too. Sunday was warm with high clouds that stayed until we were headed out from base camp.

The view from the top was magnificent - all the lakes and the mountains were visible. We all made it to the top in great shape - but the snow was soft and the scree was soft so it was hard walking. The snow was too soft for much glissading on the way out - so we had to forego that pleasure. Merle was the route leader and not only led our party in and out competently, but led the way for two Mazamas who were lost.

Climbers were, Dorothy Hayes (leader), Bill Perrine, John Perrine, Velma Shirk, Merle Traudt (co-leader), and Dorothy Turner.
