After book-signing, giving of summit certificates, eating, etc. headed for camp and arrived at 7:30. For six of the ten climbers this was their first mountain climb and only two of the ten had ever been on Broken Top.

Started climb of South Sister from Green Lakes at 8:30 a.m. Sunday with seventeen climbers. By 11:30 we had reached the Red Ridge. Weather very cloudy, cold and strong winds. All climbers were poorly dressed for the weather and four had turned back for camp. Some were in shorts with no heavy jackets. After sharing clothes all thirteen remaining made the summit at 12:30 in freezing fog and very strong winds. Back to camp at 3:30 very cold and tired.

We the rest of the day in our tents in freezing weather and near white out conditions. Group started crawling from tents by 7:00 a.m. There was a light skim of snow and ¼ inch of ice on pans of water. Last group left camp at 10:30 and had a few light snow showers before reaching cars at 12:15. The last group with leader and four others stopped at the Inn of the Seventh Mountain for a warm swim or sauna. Reached home at 5:00 p.m. after short lunch stop.
