Description:

For the September outing, our first Saturday morning outing of our winter schedule and National Public Lands Day, the City would like us to work on improving the Ridgeline Trail in Dillard-Skyline Park. We'll widen and clear a drainage ditch and cut back brush from the trailside on the north side of Mt. Baldy.

Meet at the Spring Boulevard Trailhead at the North end of Dillard-Skyline Park, this is a small lot (2 spaces) so park along the street.

Trip Report

For National Public Lands Day and our first Saturday morning outing of our winter schedule the City asked us to work in Dillard-Skyline Park to improve drainage and cut back brush from the trail sides. Our group of volunteers met up at the small trailhead and parked by boxing each other in to fit all of the vehicles. We discussed the 2 tasks and self-selected the projects to work on by selecting our preferred tools for the day after the tailgate safety talk. We hiked up the Ridgeline to the drainage ditch that we were to widen, clear, and armor with rocks. We reviewed the plan for the ditch and outflow work with Janet, David, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Denise, and Jim before separating into 2 groups with the remainder of the party (Eva, Lynn, Joan, Matt, Fletcher, Naith, and Oliver) continuing up to work our way back while cutting back brush along the trail sides. As we met back up at the ditch we double-checked the rock placement by doing the step test and filled underneath them to increase the stability and prevent undercutting by the water that will soon be channeled via the ditch. <br />

Special thanks go to Janet for bringing scrumptious treats and Clara for clearing copious amounts of gravel and bark from the concrete steps at the main trailhead.
