Trip Report

For this outing our group of stalwart Obsidian volunteers met up at the Main Spencer Butte parking lot. We grabbed tools after discussing the primary tasks for the day trailside brushing and drainage clearing. We carried an assortment of tools including handclippers, a shovel, 2 Terra hoes, 2 McLeods, a garden hoe, and a pitchfork. We bid Clara farewell at the trailhead stairs as we began our hike up and as she began clearing the stairs. Our hike took us up the Main Trail and then down the Tie Trail to nearly the Tie Trail and Ridgeline Trail Junction where we began our work clearing drainages: ditches, culverts, and outflows. We made our way back up the Tie Trail working as we went. Our larger than normal group made great progress and was only slightly aided by a fallen log covering 40 to 50 feet of drainage ditch that we didn't have to clear. We made it into the upper drainages above the open drain if you're familiar with the trail.

Special thanks go to Darko for cutting back brush from the trailsides using only handclippers and Clara for as always doing an immaculate job clearing the trailhead stairs.
