Description:

We will begin work on the trails around the Tie Trail and the Ridgeline Trail. There are a handful of stretches of re-contouring, widening, and re-surfacing that need to be done. There are a couple of stretches of ditch that need to be re-dug, and there are a handful of culverts that need to be armored. Also, there is a small retaining wall construction project for a couple of folks right there at the wayfinding post.

Trip Report

We met up with Christer LaBrecque and Josh Schrader of the City's Parks and Open Space Division. We hiked up from the Fox Hollow Trailhead and picked up tools and equipment from a neighborhood connector trail. We then continued onto the Junction with the Tie Trail around which our work was focused. With the assistance and direction of the City staff we broke into 3 groups and got to work. One small group worked to build a sturdy, visually appealing 8 ft. long retaining wall around the base of the trailmarker at the junction. The second group worked on digging out and armoring (placing rocks along to prevent erosion) the 60 ft. long uphill ditch along the Ridgeline just to the West of the junction. The 3rd small group continued along the Ridgeline to the Westside of the wooden bridge and dug out and armored the 20 ft. long uphill drainage ditch. Josh and Christer ran the power-wheelbarrows ferrying gravel and rocks to us so that we could get as much done as possible.

We greatly improved the drainage and the armoring should help to prevent erosion from claiming the uphill side of the trail in these very wet areas.
