Description:

Our 7th annual New Years Day Hike will hopefully have clear skies and a spectacular view. Meet at the (Main) Spencer Butte parking lot — the paved one with the steps. We will toast in the New Year and share easy to eat snacks. I’ll cancel or substitute if there is ice on the steps.

Trip Report

Seventeen of us met at 9:30AM at the Spencer Butte parking lot for our 7th annual New Year hike. We toasted to New Experiences in 2019 with pomegranate soda before we headed up to the sun and blue skies. We gingerly stepped around some ice patches on the steps and had a few seconds to wish the long-distance hikers a Happy New Year as they scurried down. Above the clouds we had a spectacular view. We munched on homemade pumpkin bread, English toffee, and chocolate oatmeal balls before we posed for the traditional photo holding the Happy New Year letters. We encountered few people until we met the crowds coming up the trail. This is definitely a cheerful way to celebrate with friends.
