Description:

Meet at the (Main)Spencer Butte parking lot — the paved one with the steps. No—it is not a New Years Day Hike. It is to celebrate the improved trail to the summit. It is amazing! Late May a trail crew started working down from the summit steps hauling gravel and peeler logs, removing rocks, bracing up the trail sides. Photos will be featured in the July Bulletin. Optional: If a few of you want to leave your car at the 52nd trailhead so that you can have a longer hike, I could transport you on my way up to Spencer Butte Trailhead. Trip Report

With the marine air, it was a cool start at 7:30am from the Spencer Butte Trailhead to the summit where we celebrated the recent trail work with marionberry muffins. I reminded everyone that Ed used a pickax to remove large rocks on many Obsidian trail maintenance projects. We were glad he could join us! Sandra continued on down to Martin Street while the rest of us made a quick return to the parking lot to tackle compelling home tasks. Photos of the trail work are featured in the July Bulletin We will need to schedule another hike from the main lot when the trail project is completed- perhaps a loop to include the Tie Trail. Thanks to Mari who used her grabber to pick up trash.
