Description:

We will work to prepare the trails and drainage for the weather the next 3 seasons bring. (I don't want to use the 'r' word! I think our summer was too short this year.) We will break into 2 groups depending on the number of people that show up. One group will go up the West Trail working on drainage and the other will go up the Main Trail and work down the Tie Trail.

Trip Report

Our group met at 9 a.m. for our first Saturday morning trail maintenance outing of the fall. For this month’s outing we planned to clear and improve the drainage features along the West and Main trails on Spencer Butte. We each grabbed a couple of tools and started up the steep West Trail.

We cleared drainage and raked leaves and other duff off of the cobbled sections of the trail. We brought along a mini-sledge and alternated pounding in all the rebar sticking up out of the trail that we could. (Some is cemented in the rocks and can’t be pounded down.) We made it up to the summit in time to enjoy some well deserved snacks and lemonade. We then hiked down the Main Trail back to the parking lot continuing to work along the way.
